Outcome Objectives and Measurements |
To increase the historical content knowledge
of American History and improve relevant classroom instruction,
through content sessions and discussions with scholars, collaborative
narrative and lesse\on development, and from year-round,
in-class assistance and mentoring from scholars, the AIHE
staff, master teachers and colleagues. |
For three consecutive years, 100% of the fellows
will receive sustained, intensive professional development
in traditional American history content and application.
They will implement these practices to convey substantive
information in their classrooms on a regular basis as measured
by session critiques, reflections, lesson plans and pre/post
tests scores. |
To develop a permanent professional learning
community that will provide teachers with substantive traditional
American historical material and rigorous activities to improve
and enliven the teaching of traditional American history
on a continuing basis. |
Over three years, 100%
of the fellows will create lessons using primary sources,
such as: documents, journals, and letters, along with lessons
investigating contemporaries’ opinions
and modern historiographies, as measured by the completion
of three historical narratives. |
To form a cadre of trainers who will replicate
portions of the Liberty Fellowship and train peers at in-service
professional development days and in vertical teams, within
their own districts and/or in other districts. |
Over three years, a minimum of 75% of the fellows
will conduct turnkey training for history teachers at in-service
sessions in their home districts, or by modeling learning
for peers as measured by workshop critiques, model lessons,
or informal peer feedback. |
To create three “historical narratives
and lesson activities” teacher-guides on a Liberty
Fellowship interactive website to help sustain this program,
along with use for further dissemination. These media will
focus on teaching traditional American History to modern-learners,
using web-based and/or interactive lessons. |
Over three years, 100% of the fellows will
design and create electronic resources for publication on
the Fellowship website, as measured by published material. |
To train teachers in the use of historical
landmark sites to assist them in elaborating the story of
traditional American history, thus providing students with
a multi-dimensional view of traditional American History. |
Post-field trip evaluations will be administered
to collect teacher and student data, assessing the impact
of a field trip experience on their knowledge of traditional
American History . |
To train teachers to elaborate the story of
traditional American History, through the use of visual enhancements
found in Fellowship DVDs, the Fellowship website, AIHE CD-ROMS,
and Cicero tm that is consistent with the Fellowship content. |
Over the three years, the American Institute
for History Education and Cicero tm . will identify resources
and provide training, thus increasing technology use as indicated
in lesson plans and program journals. |
To improve the achievement of students and
increase their knowledge of traditional American History
as a direct result of Liberty Fellowship sessions, lessons,
methods and resources. |
Over three years, students will demonstrate
a continual attainment of knowledge in American history as
measured by pre/post test assessments, comparisons of their
scores each year with students of nonparticipating teachers
over the three years, and through student reflections. |
To improve teachers’ historical
content knowledge and give them the means to bring the
substantive content to students, The Cicero: History
Beyond the Textbook™ will provide teachers with the resources
and means to effectuate salient increases in student achievement.. |
Over three years, teachers
will use Cicero™ to access substantive classroom lessons,
resources, maps, videos, audios, etc. 100% will use Cicero
tm to incorporate empirically proven history teaching methods
and lessons in their classrooms. |
