| "It has been my pleasure to collaborate with Dr. Kevin Brady and the American Institute for History Education ( AIHE). Through the efforts of Dr. Brady and the AIHE, my school district’s consortium was awarded a one million dollar grant by the Department of Education’s Teaching of American History grant program. During our recent three day colloquia, the AIHE was able to bring several leading historical scholars to address a consortium of fifty teachers. The information disseminated by these scholars proved to be rich in content and significance. During the three days, many of the participants indicated how impressed they were with the overall quality of the lectures and how much they learning. They also stated how anxious they were to go back to their districts and disseminate this knowledge to their colleagues and students. This, of course, is the purpose of the grant; to enrich history teachers with content! I am looking forward to the remainder of the three year grant and working with Dr. Brady and the AIHE." |

"I have been fortunate to have the experience of participating in the TAH grant. It is truly rewarding to meet with colleagues who have a
passion for History. Often, we forget the past only to be reminded later, just how important it is to learn from our mistakes. Society
places a lot of emphasis on Language and Mathematics. Social Studies
gets pushed far down on the priority list. Through TAH, educators
learn a better, more challenging approach to compare societies and
histories with each other.
Our guest speakers have been truly amazing. The wealth of knowledge
they possess and turn key to us, is truly invaluable.
I look forward to continuing with my experience and sharing it with my
students.

| "The TAH Grants have benefited me greatly in several ways. First of
all, the grant encouraged me to broaden my knowledge of American and
world history. Secondly, I appreciated learning about others experiences
and how they used the grand. And most of all it benefited my use of
subject matter and experience in the classroom." |

| "The ability to partner with a truly professional organization like AIHE has paid huge dividends for us. Over the past several years we had looked into to applying for a TAH grant; however, with already administering millions in discretionary and non-discretionary grants who needed more administrative overload. Not until we partnered with AIHE did the process seem doable. This organization walked us through all of the mechanics and provided valuable insight into the program itself. With AIHE’s help we were successful in obtaining our first million dollar grant! Additionally, AIHE has been there to organize and facilitate our program needs. They put all the pieces together for you. We might have done this without them, but we could never be successful without them!" |

| "I have been an elementary and middle school special education teacher for over 25-years and have spent untold hours in professional development courses. The Discovery Liberty Fellowship is exceptional in that it takes care of my needs as a lifelong learner and gives me top-notch tools and resources to use with my students. All the educators involved in the program are equally passionate about history, teaching and children - a rare but treasured combination. Because of this program I have been able to effectively integrate history content into my reading, writing, and mathematics classes in ways that are stimulating and accessible to both my special education and g/t students." |

"Dear Editor:
As teachers with the Bayonne Board of Education, it is our privilege to inform you that the city of Bayonne has a treasure in its midst. For the past three years, due to the tireless professional efforts of Evelyn Taraszkiewicz, we have been afforded the opportunity for extraordinary experiences. We teachers have visited such places as Gettysburg; Lowell, Massachusetts; Plymouth, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C.; Harlem, New York; Trenton, New Jersey; Ellis Island; Sycamore Hill, Philadelphia; Williamsburg, Virginia; and others too numerous to mention. Coupled with these trips, we’ve attended seminars given by historians, and numerous colloquia.
All of these events were made possible by a $5000, 000 federal Teaching American History Grant created and implemented by Evelyn Taraszkiewicz, Director of Social Studies, Language Arts, and Service Learning. This grant was obtained at zero cost to the taxpayers of Bayonne. We would be remiss not to mention Kevin Brady, Ph.D., one of the founders of the American Institute for History Education, for his dedication and cooperation with Mrs. Taraskiewicz in coordinating and arranging all our activities. This woman’s passion for learning is limitless and contagious. Educators of her caliber are a rarity and all too often not acknowledged.
The intent of this letter is to thank a generous, intelligent educational leader and to bring to the public’s attention the importance of her great contribution to the education of the children of Bayonne. From all of us who have the pleasure of working fro and with a woman of such stature, Evelyn, we thank and salute you!

"The Teaching American History Grant program is a wonderful opportunity for teachers of US History to expand their knowledge and skills in the subject area.
The Manalapan-Englishtown Schools are about to begin our first great session on January 20, 2007 and without the American Institute for History Education and Dr. Kevin Brady, it probably would not be happening.
Dr. Brady and his staff have worked with the districts that make up the consortium of the Molly Pitcher Fellowship for the past year and their efforts will soon bear fruit.
Their assistance included helping to draft the grant, providing teaching staff and offering the logistical services that are needed to conduct a successful program.
While it has not always been easy working with four other school districts, Kevin and his staffs are always there for support, whether it be in person, on the phone or via email.

"With the conclusion of year one of the TOOL Teaching American History Grant I felt it was important to comment on the progress we have made thus far. The teachers involved in this project have given “rave reviews” about the program, especially the historical content presented by the scholars, the instructional strategies and peer collaboration. We have developed just under forty high quality lessons and the preliminary results of the evaluation indicate that these lessons have had a significant impact on student understanding of American history.
You (AIHE) have demonstrated a sincere interest in providing the teachers with a stimulating and exciting program and I think we have accomplished that goal. Your content knowledge in American history is impressive and has been an asset to the program. I am looking forward to our collaboration in years two and three. " |

| " I envisioned one idea about how the early settlements looked and it was somewhat different than what we toured. Excellent! Long walk but worth every step! The guide for the Freedom Trail was outstanding!’ Visiting these sites provided a more visual aspect for teaching about the Revolution. Excellent!, A lot of planning went into this trip." |

"Teachers
I am an elementary school teacher and this is my second year participating in the American Institute for History Education grant program. Some of the benefits to participating in the program include gaining knowledge in the subject area of history to share with my students, receiving many free materials to use in my classroom such as books and cds, obtaining ideas to incorporate into my Social Studies lessons, and having the opportunity to work collaboratively with my colleagues. I highly recommend participating in this grant." |

| "I have found the AIHE's Liberty Fellowship’s materials, scholars, attendees, and facilities/field trips to be nothing less than top notch history. It is quite refreshing to realize and associate with a strong cadre of dedicated history scholars and educators that still exude a passion for their field and its study and dissemination. Of particular note are the visiting scholars and authors. Their presentations are of the highest quality and they openly facilitate and invite stimulating discussions on an array of issues and topics. Likewise the attendant and accompanying lessons presented and those created by Fellows are of post graduate quality. Those educators attending the sessions are, in turn, contributing to the expansion of knowledge and insights as well as fostering a confluence of different experiences and expertise. There are few better experiences for the true history educators than this." |
